COFCO Begins Work on Asia's Largest Malt Processing Base Release Time : 2012-03-20
Ground was broken on March 24 for the 102 million US dollar project to build Asia's largest malt processing base in Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province. This is the second large-scale facility built by COFCO dedicated to malt processing. The current project covers an area of 15 hectares and will have an annual malt processing capacity of 360,000 tons. The plant's output will mainly go to China's largest market for beer―the eastern region, and distribution extends into the southeastern part of the country. The first phase of the project, with an annual processing capacity of 120,000 tons, should be in operation by July 2006.

The other large malt processing facility built by COFCO, the Dalian COFCO Malt Co., Ltd., has an annual processing capacity of 300,000 tons. The completion of the entire project in Jiangyin will bring COFCO's total malt processing capacity to 660,000 tons.

Ning Gaoning, current COFCO chairman, Liu Fuchun, COFCO president, Xue Guoping, COFCO vice-president, Zhang Dongfeng, assistant to the president and Li Ming, assistant to the president, all attended the foundation laying ceremony. Huang Lixin, vice-governor of Jiangsu Province, Zhang Jinxian, vice secretary of Wuxi Party committee, and Wang Weicheng, secretary of Jiangyin Party committee all gave congratulatory remarks.
